CNC Turning Services

Our standard tolerances for CNC machining of metals is DIN-2768-1-fine and for plastics is DIN-2768-1-medium. Tolerances are greatly affected by part geometry and type of material. For case-by-case studie.

What is CNC Turning & How Does CNC Milling Work

CNC milling (computer numerical control milling) is a CNC machining process that involves removing material from the workpiece by rotating and moving a cutting tool, such as a milling cutter, and positioning the workpiece properly, to produce or finish a custom CNC machining object. CNC milling technique can be used to shape a part from beginning to finish, it’s best to produce features or definitions as a secondary or finishing process for machined components. The milling cutting tool can be placed horizontally or vertically, but since the numerically controlled milling machines have evolved strongly, moving on several axis, up to 5 axis, allowing much more to movement of the cutting item in addition to the repositioning of the piece.

FAQ

CNC, or computer numerical control machining, is a subtractive manufacturing method that leverages a combination of computerized controls and machine tools to remove layers from a solid block of material. The desired cuts in the metal are programmed according to corresponding tools and machinery, which perform the machining task in an automated fashion.

CNC machining starts with a computer, on which designers prepare a part using CAD (Computer-aided Design) software. This digital part is then converted into a format that can be recognized by a CNC machine.

Instructions are sent to the CNC machine in the form of  “G-Code” after which the machine can start cutting.

Most CNC machines have a “worktable” and work holding device to keep a block of material — known as the “workpiece” — in place. The worktable may or may not move, depending on the style of the machine.

When machining starts, the cutting tool makes contact with the workpiece, cutting away layers of material. The tool and/or workpiece is moved and/or rapidly rotated according to the G-Code instructions so that cuts are made in exactly the right places until the part is finished.
